About Viva Qual Research Ltd

The company was created by expert qualitative practitioner Hetta Bramley in 2021.

The name is a celebration of the magic of qualitative research.

Qual is an incredibly powerful – and often underrated – marketing tool. In the right hands, there are few marketing issues that qual can’t help with and few ideas that can’t be made better by a bit of well-timed qual intervention.

The name also relates to the phrase viva voce, the name given to verbal exams, meaning ‘living voice’. This seems apposite for a discipline that exists to bring consumers’ experiences to life for the brands that serve them.

Qualitative research is both a science and an art. Viva Qual Research offers a balance of expertise, rigour and vision.

Establishing Viva Qual Research allowed me to focus on my love of all things qual, after an exciting twenty year career with full-service research agencies, including over a decade heading up the qual offer at some of the UK’s leading boutiques.

In my time as a quallie, I have spoken to consumers across the globe, in caravans and football stadiums, film studios and kitchens, on an incredible array of topics, for some of the mightiest brands (and others who soon will be).

Whether it’s understanding ageing for Boots, offensive language for OfCom, value for eBay or beauty for Estee Lauder, I get a huge kick out of speaking to consumers, understanding their truths and translating them into insights and ideas that can propel my clients’ brands to greater success.
